Launch yourself into an amazingly realistic 3D world. In a high-speed
hover fighter aircraft you can fly freely anywhere in our outdoor, underground
and underwater 3D environments. Blast away at the military targets, watch
out for their return fire as you race to locate the portal and activate
the gateway into the next world before the clock runs down and your fuel
runs out.
Plenty of fast, explosive arcade excitement never before seen on a PC!
While the graphics and sound are amazing, the real excitement is the action.
Great flight dynamics using simple flight and fire controls, spectacular
explosions and wild pyrotechnics along with great enemy AI and bystander
reaction add to the thrill of competing and the pure joy of flying unrestricted.
And then there is multiplayer! We combined the best elements from our
favorite multiplayer games and brought them together in these dazzling
outdoor play arenas. Our guiding design principles hovered around fun and
action.
Environments
Barrage is a fun, fast action shooter and definitely not a flight sim.
There is no damage from impacts with the ground and no limit on ammunition.
It is a race against time with points scored for targets destroyed and
bonus points for time remaining. In difficult mode there isn’t much time
to stop and gawk at the scenery. If a more leisurely pace suits you, easy
gives you a chance to look around and still blast the opposition into pixel
heaven.
There are five environments: Prairie, Tunnel, Canyon, Chicago and Ocean.
New England Prairie
Goal: Get the 5 power buoys to access the portal A train passes on a high
trestle winding through tree dotted hills and valleys that give way to
an open green prairie. An action billboard plays to the empty road leading
into a small town with houses, barns and a church. On a nearby lake, a
lone fisherman in a small boat leisurely casts his line into the water.
The sun sets behind the hills. A lazy advertising blimp floats over the
valley to complete what would be an idyllic setting. Except for the military
presence…
Jet fighter aircraft explode across a sky already swarming with helicopters
on alert. On the ground, tanks patrol at random through the hills and across
the open prairie. Near the lake and in the town, missile launchers keep
vigil and parabolic dish installations send out damage inducing plasma
bursts.
Each power buoy gives you additional time if you can breach the rotating
density fields and make your way to the center. It is important to destroy
the defenses around each buoy before approaching. This is the first environment
of the game and you only have the Cannon and the Missile launcher to complete
your mission.
This seems rather simple until the portal appears along with its three
pronged defenses. Then things get a bit sticky.
In each environment there is a new weapon added with its own advantages
to find and master. In Tunnel, the Laser in introduced. For Canyon its
the Plasma Pack. In Chicago its a Speed Booster and in Ocean its the Nuke.
Sewer Tunnel
Goal: Race to the end of the tunnel and destroy the anti-gravity bi-linear
ultra isotropic flux generator Are you wondering what an ‘anti-gravity
bi-linear ultra isotropic flux generator’ is? So are we. Exploding gas
pipes, leaky toxic waste containers, chain link fence barriers, armed turrets.
A long, dirty, smelly (smelly?) race.
The Tunnel environment was designed to challenge your piloting skills
with its linear ‘race’ feel. Winds from fans try to blow you off course
and gravity fields pull you in unless you fight back. Things get really
interesting when a solid rocket booster sends you to 5 times your normal
speed. Look away for a moment and you’ll surely crash in this narrow section.
Not designed for multiplayer!
PS: Don’t get too close to the lava or your vehicle will overheat.
Grand Canyon
Goal: Clear all military targets to access the portal A dam holds back
the rushing torrent allowing space for an elite tourist hotel complete
with rooftop helipad, golf course and explodable lobby. Blast away and
return a bit of nature to its pre-Army Corp. of Engineers status.
Barrage is true go anywhere 3D. Designed and developed with a three
axis joystick, the freedom of movement imparts the feeling of omnipotence.
Part of the technique (and key to replayability) of Barrage is finding
the optimal path to complete the mission. Each player will find a particular
pattern that works for him. One tester took 30 enjoyable hours of practice
to complete Canyon in the difficult setting.
Canyon has above and below water game play. There are also hidden caves.
And if your hardware can handle it, fly along with a graceful Pterodactyl!
Downtown Chicago
Goal: Destroy the outlaw police units that have taken over Chicago The
windy city at night. Wide avenues crawling with rush hour hover traffic,
the river, bridges, historic skyscrapers - and the outlaw police force:
blast ‘em all.
Chicago is a great multiplayer environment. There are open spaces high
above the building tops. Here you can get a good view and get off a nice
round of ammo but you are also a sitting duck. If you stay low you can
always maneuver between buildings to avoid the other players. Multiplayer
is tuned for fast action. You want to get a burst of shot off while always
having an eye on your radar to spot incoming missiles.
We support 2 to 8 player Internet, modem, serial link & LAN multiplayer
in four environments, each with a different feel. Prairie is a small crucible
and best for 2 to 3 players. Canyon has the variety of wide open spaces
and more covered areas as well as under water. It is medium sized and best
for 2 to 6 players. Chicago is fun for 3 to 8 players. Water is the most
spacious and is good for 3 to 8 players. The teleporters keep things interesting
because you never know when some one will appear.
Ocean
Goal: Recover the five components of the nuclear weapon, infiltrate
the evil island to destroy the super gun. Each environment gets harder.
Ocean is the last and it is difficult. A player must battle jets, helicopters,
boat tanks and guided nuclear warheads above water. Below water there are
subs and minisubs plus the errant missiles from the jets above.
